George F. Young provided professional civil engineering and surveying services for The Residences at 400 Central, a landmark 515-foot-tall, 1,300,000-square-foot development that occupies an entire city block in downtown St. Petersburg, FL. The project features an eight-story parking garage, a residential tower, restaurants, office space, and ground-level retail.

Our engineering team developed comprehensive construction plans addressing utilities, stormwater management, ADA accessibility, demolition, and grading. We worked closely with FDOT, SWFWMD, FDEP, and the City of St. Petersburg to coordinate permitting. During construction, we assisted the contractor in obtaining right-of-way permits and prepared a phased MOT plan to facilitate sanitary relocation and tower construction.

Our survey team established boundaries, setting the control network, deep foundation staking, monitoring excavation shoring, control line verification in the tower, LiDAR scanning for floor flatness, camber survey for structural steel, staking utilities and hardscapes, FEMA Elevation Certificate, FDOT Right of Way as-built, site as-built, and legal descriptions for condominium declaration.

It was exciting to be part of the tallest high-rise in downtown St. Petersburg and to watch it grow from a massive foundation all the way to the luxury penthouse. This truly became an all-hands-on-deck effort for GFY Survey. The schedule was ambitious, and expectations were understandably high. I’m proud of the hard work put forth by our field crews, CAD technicians, fellow project managers, and executive team throughout the process. 400 Central demonstrated what GFY can accomplish when we work together as one.
